The fractured nature of this tree (including star and ring shake which occurred during the life of the tree, and then drying shake following its removal from the peat bog) informed the use of cold cast copper infill both decoratively but also to stabilise the timber.
Bog oak is rarely used by furniture makers; it is usually found in small pieces, is difficult to work with, and can be extremely time-consuming.
